Monday’s Maven

Full Name: Annie Valentine

blog:

Regarding Annie

kids: Harrison, Rex, June and Georgia (yes, those are the names on their birth certificates.)

Location: Layton, UT, soon to be Germany

One Word that Describes You: Enthusiastic

What makes you smile? Picking up my boy from preschool, my baby falling asleep in her exersaucer, and poopoo in the potty

What is one of your dreams you hope to accomplish soon?

Get my first book published

One of Your favorite motherhood moments? Watching my seven-year-old son come through the door every day after school and yell out to his brother and sister, “Where’s my hug?”

What is your guilty pleasure?

Diet coke with a leeetle bit of regular Dr. Pepper on top. I only have one a day (44 oz).

What do you love most about you? I love the way I love my people. Family, friends, you name it. If I love you, you’re gonna know it.

Favorite Hobby? My favorite hobby is making things with my sewing machine. I love glue guns, spray paint, costumes, house projects–anything that lets me escape to my craft space is refreshing.

Who is your hero?Jesus Christ. This sounds cliche, but I really want to learn to love like He does. He rocks in the whole “here’s how much I love you” department.

Annie writes a weekly newspaper column that can be found in Montesano, Washington’s The Vidette, and Ogden, Utah’s Standard Examiner that you must not miss, she links to it on her blog regularly. I always wonder, where do you come up with ideas on what to write about each week? Any tricks of the trade that maybe could help the rest of us out with how to come up with ideas for our blog writing?

If you want to be a good writer, the best thing you can do is write every day. I try not to go more than a day without putting fingers to keyboard, and because of that I can usually come up with something at least once or twice a week that’s printable. Also, think shorter, sharper, stronger. The best writers I know edit themselves.
