Cuba 2018 Trip: Havana Outings

Two of the things we try to do in the beginning of our trips to new places, international or domestic, is to take a walking tour. If we do this towards the beginning we have more of an idea of places we want to go to later in the trip. We also learn some history, get to talk to locals for a few hours, and also get some exercise! During this walking tour we learned more about the buildings, their history, their current and past leaders, and Cuban customs.

The other thing we like to do in new places is just wander around for hours! Walk through neighborhoods, shopping districts, where churches, are, anything! In Havana is hard to not stop a million times and pose the girls for cute pictures. All the backdrops are so colorful and full of character!

There is about two blocks where cruise ships drop off passengers for a few hours to get a taste of Cuba and then get back on the ship. The area is very commercialized and a huge tourist trap. We had some of the worst chocolate there ever. BUT we also had the best gelato we have had in our lives there, and we are big gelato fans. It was so good that when we were finished, we walked a couple streets away, and then turned back to get seconds.

Along with a walking tour we also took a city tour in a taxi. They took us to one of their city parks where we witnessed a baptism by a popular faith out there and also got to walk around the beautiful trees. Actually reminded me a lot of the green and trees in the Southeast of the United States.

The last thing they took us to was another tourist trap BUT it included some really beautiful mosiac art. It is called Fusterlandia and I would go back even with it being a tourist trap.

One day we just spent the day at the hotel next door swimming in their pool. We had to pay a large fee to use the pool so decided to just spend the entire day there to make it worth it. It was a nice relaxing day!
