Cuba 2018 Trip: Outside Havana
I finally made it to the Caribbean Ocean! I have always wanted to see the blue green crystal clear ocean. As soon as I stepped into it, my very first step, my flip flop slipped to the side, and I stepped on a sea urchin. I spent the next 3-4 weeks pulling parts of it out of my foot. It was extremely painful but it was still worth it. I also had never been snorkeling, it always scared me a little bit. But even with being in extreme pain I did it and it was magical! I also just adored watching my girls snorkel in the gorgeous ocean.
I didn’t let that nasty sea urchin ruin our day and we also got to go swim in a natural thermal CAVE!
On the drive we stopped at a place where they had animals, a local band, and fresh sugar cane juice for us to try.
However, the highlight of the day was going to a little city on the way back where they made a local feast for us. We ate a lot of different things, the weirdest one being crocodile. There are so meals that you will remember forever, that you feel so lucky to be sharing with people. An Anthony Bordian moment, THIS WAS ONE OF THEM!
We felt so lucky to be able to visit Cuba and really will never forget it.
The only thing that was a bad experience was the airport food. There is one thing you can buy, Cuban ham sandwiches to eat. You know when you have a really bad feeling about something but ignore it? Well I did that with these sandwiches. And on our last flight home where three of us were barfing and two of us had explosive….you know what, I knew why we shouldn’t eat that sandwich. I got so terribly ill that I swear it took a good three weeks to feel back to myself. None of us have had food poisoning like that before. Poor Cameron barfed directly onto the outside of the plane and I had to leave all four kids out on the street to make it to a bathroom. That is another part we WILL NEVER FORGET.
