Last Summer in Utah

January 4th, 2020 in Beauty in Everyday

Other than trying to fit in all the “lasts” and saying goodbye to everyone we did do some other fun things!

Summer Camps

We only did about four weeks of summer camps instead of 8-9. Which my girls are joined together and forced me to do. So sadly I got a lot less time for my summer college semester and a lot more of I’m boooooooorrrreeedddddssss.

The ones we did do were:

Salt Lake Culinary Center with Ms Amy. Abby looks up to Ms Amy quite a bit and has taken a good dozen of classes from her. Ms Amy let Abby move up to the older classes and took a special interest in her. During Abby’s last class she let her know how talented she was and gave her a gift of knives.

Shae & Cameron also got to take a class together because they really enjoy to cook and bake as well. Every single person in my house does. How did a raise such foodies!?

We did a one day camp at the Utah Children’s Theatre just for old times sakes. My girls spent a lot of time over the years doing classes, camps, homeschool camps, and watching plays there.

Leonardo Camps have always been a big hit in my family. Whoever plans those camps is my kind of person; you can tell they love play, creation, teaching, and thinking outside the box.

While Abby was away we got Lydia and Emma to do a Peterson Farm Camp with us. I love it because they work hard and have an awesome time with the farm animals.

All the girls went to Girl Scout camps during the same week. It was Shae & Reagan’s first time away at an overnight camp and I was glad I could send them together just like I did with Abby & Cameron.

Abby went to camp with a friend she & I adore to Artrageous camp. They are both so aware of other’s feelings, don’t cause problems & are great at gathering people together. They are a good team & enjoyed yoga, paddle boarding, developing film & getting eaten alive by bugs. Just kidding, the mosquito bites were extreme this year.

Cameron went with her cousin Lydia to Chopped Junior Camp. I think Cameron loved how sarcastic & funny her counselors were just like her. She also loved being with her favorite person for an entire week.

Shae & Reagan went together to camp. Shae had a blast and when I picked her up she looked the happiest I’ve seen her in a long long time. She also was fabulously FILTHY when I picked her up. She obviously had a blast at camp. Reagan had some homesick moments while at camp. She had a sweet counselor that would read her books & show her pictures of her own sisters to cheer her up. She loved jewelry making and did really well into the last day. She barfed in front of her friends before pick up on the last day. When Daddy saw Reagan looking like death walking down the pathway after barfing before pick up.

While they were gone I had a blast! One day I hung out with my brothers and my almost new sister in law Calley. I also decided one night I wanted to find a lake, jump in it, and swim across it. So Ty came with me and we did it. Then last minute we decided to see a midnight movie. IT WAS AWESOME TO DO WHATEVER I WANTED! You guyzzzz I read books without being interrupted.

Our very last week in Utah the girls went to a Natural History Museum camp. We have been doing those for TEN YEARS, for a decade, since Abby was in preschool. Since the museum was at their old building!

We refer to the museum as one of our other homes, it’s why we chose to do family pictures there last year. This week they all got a nice break from each other & me by having a blast learning about artists, power tools, solar systems, yoga, weather, etc.

Cousin Time

I took Cameron & Lydia to celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday at Kings English bookstore. This year they even went to classes to learn different sills that Hogwarts kids would learn.

Lots of days in Becca’s perfect summer backyard with a trampoline and slip and slide.

We had a sleepover in our temporary rental space with a hot tub. My favorite moment is when Rex literally misstepped and rolled down the hot tub stairs onto concrete. His mom had made him wear a lifejacket the whole time he was in there and I was just sitting right below it watching them. But the lifejacket totally saved him from scratching up his body during the fall because he just rolled on down like he was in an inflated ball.

This day cracked me up because all Sarah & I wanted to do was take our kids to a pool and I swear to you we tried three different pools and none of them were open.

Abby & Cameron got to meet their very favorite YouTuber! She released her first children’s chapter book which they were really excited to read and we got to go to her book signing. We were really close to the front, the girls got to ask her questions, and listen to her talk. When she signed their books she took the time to look at pictures of their new dog. It was a really cool experience for ME to watch their faces light up when they got to meet her. This video doesn’t even have the YouTuber in it, just their reactions!

Grand America

Of course we had to get in some R&R time at Grand America. Over the years with how stressful it was to build up the business this was the only spot that once or twice a year we could go and feel a real break for a little bit. Plus that Sunday Brunch, have you ever been to something like it?!

Surprise Party for Grandma

For my mom I wanted to do something special so threw her a surprise breakfast party in the forest. I had all her grandkids hide up the hill and then come down singing Happy Birthday. It made her so happy and I like to see my mama happy.

I also got to pick ZERO of the decor or decide where to place anything. My girls have taken over my party planning responsibilities and sometimes I miss it. Everything was from Jolleys and it turned out very whimsical.

Pool Party for Grandpa

For my dad’s birthday I tried to set up something he would enjoy. He loves the water and having fun with his grandkids. So I got dinner for everyone and we ate it in the grass. Then we played in the pool with the most spectacular mountain views.

Mountains

Leaving Utah meant leaving the mountains so we had to make sure to spend some time up in them.

Farmers Markets & Favorite Spots

Salt Lake Farmers Market was something we had to make it to over the summer. As well as all our favorite spots to get certain cookies, sandwiches, Italian cheese, etc.

We flew out my niece Arci to spent some time with us like she did last summer. This year we took her to ride a ski lift, have her first macaroon and gelato, had dinner up in the mountains, went paddleboarding, introduced her to raspberry shakes, went on a rainy hike, and took her to some museums. She fits right in like us because she likes to be busy and the same things we do.

PHEW! We were out of town for a huge part of the summer and moved in mid August so I’m surprised we got all of that jammed in!
