2017 Summer Camp Central & Odds and Ends

December 24th, 2018 in About Me

We live the backwards life and since I homeschool during the school year, I SHIP OFF MY KIDS IN THE SUMMER TIME! So here are all the places I sent them to this summer so I could get a chance to breathe.

Week 1: The older girls vetoed this camp so I sent the younger girls instead. Club U camps where they got to be in the same group and run around SLC doing this and that. Abby & Cameron went to a culinary camp and learned how to cook even more dishes to trash the kitchen with.

Week 2 Abby went to a week long hiking camp along the Wasatch Front. She will remember this experience for her entire life and hold it against me until she is approximately 53 years old. The other girls went to a theatre camp and Reagan’s instruction on performance day announced that she would like to adopt Reagan.

Week 3 NHMU Camps; the weeks at this museum they learn more science than in a full year of science units. They jam pack so many things into that week and the kids come out 78% smarter! Abby did Hammers, Textiles & Patterns. Her favorite parts were learning how to make art with objects & chemicals, how to use tools the right way & tie dying. Cameron did Engineering with Legos. Her favorite parts were learning to use lego pieces as pumps, learning new Lego building techniques, and creating inventions using engineering skills. Shae did Artful Science & rhythm Makers. Her favorite things were learning the beats of music and painting. Reagan did Junior detectives. Her favorite things were falling in love with a boy, making a BFF that was a boy, and being the queen of her boy class. Oh and Rockets.

Week 4 Abby & Cameron went to Girl Scout camp together to break Cameron into being gone from home for 6 nights & 7 days. They did great together except for one afternoon where they had finally had it of one another. They PINCHED each other during an activity and one of them yelped a little too loud. Snickerdoodle the very intense camp counselor came over and demanded what had happened. Even though they had worked it out between each other and already apologized to each other, the counselor still turned it into a big thing. Doing so sent Cameron into an anxiety attack and a call home to me. Snickerdoodle told me what had happened in a very serious judgey voice. I asked, “Have they been well behaved at camp minus this incident? Yes. Did they settle the disagreement between each other? Yes. Do you have any sisters? I am pretty sure they are doing great being stuck with each other for a week.” Then I started laughing and hung up. They really did have a great time, but we won’t even forget Snickerdoodle.

Shae & Reagan during that time went to another NHMU camp and learned more about dinosaurs.

Week 5 After 26 hours at home Abby returned to Girl Scout camp this time with her cute friend and had a nice long break from sisters. The rest of the girls along with their nieces went to Farm Camp, they are in heaven getting dirty and playing with animals.

Week 7 Swim Lesson time & Abby attending a teenager culinary camp. Kira is such a wonder with teaching kiddos how to swim. Abby loves Chef Amy and how she trusts and interacts with her students.

See? I ship them off big time. I work a lot in the summer for the business because it is our busiest season. So there is no down time for me, there is only work harder at something else time.

Some fun odds & ends of 2017’s summer were:

Hikes! Utah you have the most beautiful hikes.
