Costa Rica Trip 2018 Part 3

January 1st, 2020 in Our Travels Worldwide

On our trip we did three brand new things we never did before when we lived in Costa Rica. Well four if you count me taking muscle relaxers and falling asleep with fireworks falling on my head outside. That is a story for another day, if you want a fabulous story. But three three other things I’ll share is; hanging out at a new beach, a monkey river tour, and a waterfall hike from hell/heaven.

FIRST! Let’s start with this waterfall hike. I read about it online, that it led to the most gorgeous waterfall. When we arrived there were a group of men charging you to go on the public hike. That is one of the stinky things about Central America, and you just pay so they leave you alone. They also had map though and walking sticks. They said it was a very easy 30 minute hike and that Tyler and I would be fine in our slides. Luckily the girls had on more secure sandals. Along the hike were all these stops of different swimming holes. It seemed like a dream so we were on our way. Each person we passed said that the hike was a lot longer than what was advertised by them. We made it to the first water hole and it was such fun to play around in it! Plus we were getting tired and needed the cool break.

However it started to get harder, and slippier, more dangerous, and I made a video for someone to find when my family had to leave my body behind and make it out of there alive. BUT WE MADE IT! How?! I have no clue but we did and it was gorgeous.

SECOND! We went to a brand new beach, drank delicious drinks out of pineapples, wondered why none of the locals were swimming. Watched cameron cover herself in mud sand and do weird dances for all the locals. Pretended to not know Cameron. Went into the water. Found out why the locals weren’t swimming in the water. Everyone but me got bit all over by…sand fleas or something? It hurt them, this is the second time I have wondered why locals aren’t swimming and learned the hard way.

Lastly, THIRD, we went on a monkey river tour! A local will take you down a river and do a call to the monkey tribe that lives in the area. They will travel around two miles through the trees to come to the call and eat out of your hand. I was so proud of all my kids for doing it! It was a beautiful way to see more of the land out there and is something we will never forget.

BONUS, we went to church near the airport and explored a Costa Rican mall for the first time. Picked up our favorite pineapple and passion fruit chocolates. Most of all I was so happy to see my friend Irene. She is a friend that was important for me to have and I respect her so incredibly much. It was a blessing to see her and her family at church and give her a huge hug.
